wow i used to go to ilocos a lot when i was a child, its where my mom’s from, and i think i might have actually been to this place before. haha next time i got to the philippines i’ll definitely drop by to watch this in person.

I am a potter …
I am a potter myself and this looks miserable! I would never want to sit in that position at my wheel for hours at a time. Awesome massive kickwheel though- keeps momentum forever so you don’t have to continually kick it to keep the speed up. Many of the great eastern master potters would use a wheel similar to this but they would sit crosslegged in front of it to get a more comfotable angle.

Pretty amazing …
Pretty amazing wheel! Naturally developed muscular bodies are more adaptive to physical stress on one’s back. Those of us who live in the so called more developed countries tend to be less physical in our development due to the use of modern convinces - a major disadvantage when it comes to overall physical conditioning. A person who develops naturally is in far better all round condition than a person working out in a Gym concentrating in specific muscle group development.

Thanks for your comment, it is gratifying knowing that i get some viewers and that they are interested enough to comment. I neve thought on the angle of back straining while throwing clay, intrigued as I am, I’d like to se some views on it.

It’s beyond me how in Asia they can do pottery with their hands so far from the center of their bodies and not break their back.
