Hot Air Balloon Trip over the Masai Mara
Posted By admin in Basketry
On a recent visit to the Masai Mara we experienced the rare excitement of game viewing from a hot air balloon. In the crisp dawn air, we drank coffee whilst the crew partially inflated the balloons with enormous fans. The gas burners were then ignited and the balloons quickly filled with hot air slowly raising the baskets. Before departing we carefully listened to the safety instructions then climbed into the balloon basket ready for take off.
The balloons slowly lifted just before sunrise when the breeze on the plains was still cold. Apart from the hiss of the burners, the flight above the Masai Mara plains was magically silent. The pilot expertly controlled the height of the craft rising to several hundred feet then suddenly descending to within a couple of inches to stroke the dry grasses below.
At the end of our emotional flight we were treated to a champagne breakfast, complete with flowers, china and crystal set out on a table under an acacia tree.
Something ‘Out of Africa’ we will never forget.
